THE COURSE

Salisbury Book Crafts is a series of workshops which caters to all levels of bookbinding. Beginners as well as those with previous binding skills are welcome to come along and develop their particular interests in the craft.

Those just starting out are given a solid grounding in traditional methods and structures as well as instruction in the correct use of materials and tools. Basic tools, equipment and materials are provided for beginners.

For others with bookbinding knowledge it is an opportunity to come and  learn new skills or perfect old ones. Students bring their own projects and work at their own pace.

Whether your interest lies in restoration, repair, working in cloth or leather, or work of a more contemporary nature, it can slot into the workshops at Salisbury: all bindings are crafted from the same sound principles and good work ethics.

The tutor is Lori Sauer, a Fellow of Designer Bookbinders. As well as running this course she teaches master classes around the UK and at Shepherds Bookbinders. For 2011, she has launched a new series of workshops focusing on alternative binding structures, the only concentrated workshops for contemporary bindings in the country. Her work is in collections both in the UK and abroad. She did her bookbinding training at the City Lit in London and is well versed in all areas of the craft, specialising in modern design binding.
